Howe Systems are pleased to announce the availability of LPI exams at the forthcoming OSSBarcamp. These will be
offered at a 50% saving of £ 75 (invoiced through LinuxIT, England).

Prior registration is necessary as demand for exams could be high. To register and secure a place contact howesystem as they will be looking after this and do need to know who will be attending.

Howe systems will hold an LPIC-1 Exam Cram for candidates on the day if there is sufficient interest. This will take place prior to the exams and will cost €70.

We’re back again! Site has had a bit of a tidy up thanks to James Larkin for his work, not sure how I’d manage without him. Also this year sadly Jaime Hemmett won’t be around as she’s moved back to Australia. Without her last year I’d never have been able to run OSSBarcamp. When I told her about my idea she jumped on board so will miss her this year.

We have a date, a date you don’t want to miss. Saturday 17th April 2010. We have a new venue this time, but I would like to take this opportunity to thank DIT and Deirdre Lawless for their help in running the previous events. Without them we’d never have gotten off our feet. Equally without our past sponsors of Echolibre and Open Source Solutions Centre we’d not have gotten ourselves off the ground.

Saturday 17th April event will be held at the IBM offices located in Ballsbridge, Dublin 4. We hope to run this event a bit more laid back then previous events, with more ad hoc talks, more lightening sessions, and people volunteering on the day! Also we shall be running the LPI exams again on the day.

Any ideas on how to help or get involved, suggestions on how to run the day, feel free to EMAIL ME

Time is flying by and this Saturday the timetable goes live for you to fill in your talk slot if you’d like to give one. Hopefully we’ll see some great talks and I encourage people to sign up even if you’ve never given a talk before. Barcamps are a lot more casual and less pressure than conferences so come along and try it out. There have been some suggestions on topics, but what ever you want to talk about is fine by us. If you want to do a joint topic, that’s also great!

This time we’re also offering a chance to sit the LPI exams, “The Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC) program is designed to certify the competency of IT professionals using the Linux operating system and its associated tools. It is designed to be distribution neutral, following the Linux Standard Base and other relevant standards and conventions.” As an incentive also, the exams are being offered at a discounted rate, which is great ! The exams will be paper based and you will be able to sit LPI 101, 102, 201 OR 202 for £75 .

With this in mind….. Some people want to set up a study group, which I think is great, drop us a dm on twitter or email us and we’ll see what we can sort out, you can always find us on #ossbarcamp on irc.freenode.net

We’ve set a date for the next OSSBarcamp. Saturday 19th September 2009 in DIT Kevin Street Dublin. Over the coming weeks we’ll have more information, but we thought we’d let you know the date so you can start planning on coming and taking part again.

As you can see we have a cool new logo, this was designed by a member of the Catalan LoCo and is release under the Creative Commons licence. Soon we will have areas back up where we can discuss topics folks want to hear about, and also a registration page to attend. So loads of time to come up with a topic to talk about, who knows I may even bite the bullet and give a small talk!

Also this time we may be offering the chance to sit LPI exams here in Dublin on the day of the event, if you’re interested do let us know by leaving a comment. We have also decided to run more lightening talks as more folks want to do them we said we’d change around the time table to accommodate that. If you have any other suggestions do let us know.

Thanks to James again for fixing up the site for us and working his magic!
